Epilogue: Road Trip

Feverish drive to Tampa Friday night. Partied all day at the Gasparilla Parade on Saturday. Sped over to Orlando House of Blues to see Keane that night. They rocked. Pleasure Island then back to Tampa. Yesterday the Dali Museum, saw a plethora of new Dali items, including a film he collaborated with Walt Disney (!) on that has never been released. I saw the making of (Dali and Phillippe Halsman: Skull) and the actual picture above as well.

"Tasteless"

I must admit I have had some difficulty deciding what to focus this site on.

Recently, someone told me they thought it was "tasteless", which helped me realize that people have different ideas on what a "blogspot" should be. And I think none of them are wrong.

That being said, I guess the focus of this site is that there is no focus- be entertained, be repulsed, get a music suggestion, etc.

Just enjoy.

Thanks for the comment and advice. I appreciate all feedback.

Sorry...

To keep attacking my government, more specifically, my President. But he makes it too easy. Yes, I realize that is the Texas Longhorn's sign he's throwing, but out of context, you must admit it looks ridiculous( most people know it as the "heavy metal" sign, or often misconstrued as the Satanist sign). Why would he even do that outside of Texas, or the US for that matter?

Apparently he did that in Norway, do you think they know about the Longhorn's sign or even care?

Does he have to act like such a redneck?

Doesn't he realize he represents an entire country?

And are those two idiots in the porkpie-way-over-wanna-be hats his daughters?

>>sorry, I hate those hats<<

It's about time...

PORTISHEAD are recording their first album in eight years.
The band have nearly completed their third LP, according to founding member Geoff Barrow.
He said: "We're actually into it as we speak. We took some time off for Christmas, but generally we're doing another record."
Barrow told BBC 6 Music that he was surprised people thought the band had split up, saying: "We've just had our heads down really, we've never actually broken up, or parted, or whatever."
He added: "So for us it just seems, even though we haven't played for years, we still see each other and write - we just haven't released a record for a long time."

---

It has been so long. Can they still be relevant? I remember them saying this a few years ago. Supposedly they were all in Australia finishing it up, then Beth came out with that solo record.

The Jets should have won. Their kicker sucks. Nod to MV.

Mash-ups ( -- remixes that cleverly craft two songs together -- have been a growing underground phenomenon for years, and are big in the U.K. and the rest of Europe, but now, with the help of MTV, these gems of the DJ world are moving into the national spotlight.
Last summer, as part of its "Ultimate Mash-Ups", MTV put Linkin Park and Jay-Z onstage in Las Vegas, where the two stars did live mash-ups of their music, blending Jay-Z's "Izzo" with Linkin Park's "In the End," for example.
Boosted by the record's success, the network announced that it would produce five more "Ultimate Mash-Ups" specials, and is talking to artists such as Green Day, Ludacris, Kanye West, Coldplay, 50 Cent, the Beastie Boys, Snoop Dogg and Missy Elliot.

---

I like mash-ups, been appreciating them for years. But let's face it- the reason the Jay-Z- Linkin Park one worked live is that LP kinda has a "rap" part in all their formulaic, angst-ridden, "i hate you because i hate me"-type songs. Coldplay? Green Day? Do you think fans of these bands wanna hear Snoop Dogg rapping on "Clocks" or the Beastie Boys screaming their nursery school rhymes on "When I Come Around"? MTV, as usual, is missing the point. Mash-ups are cool because people with an ear for music figured out 2 completely different songs can have the same time signature. And they point it out (find the Nickelback mash-up where they put 2 of their songs in left and right speakers and it's the SAME fucking song). This is just another silly attempt at marrying hip hop and rock so that MTV can figure out how to serve its audience without being original.

"Smile Jamaica"

Marley 'Re-burial' Plans Denied

Rita Marley, the widow of reggae legend Bob Marley, has distanced herself from reports that she plans to exhume his remains in Jamaica and re-bury them in Ethiopia. A spokeswoman for the Marley Foundation, who is travelling with her, said her words had been "twisted". It was originally reported that Bob would be re-buried sometime in February to coincide with a month long 60th birthday anniversary celebration in Ethiopia. Rita, who is currently in Ethiopia, has now denied the reports.

---

She did a quick about-face on this one, or the reporter who originally took her statement was severely impaired. It is interesting to note that she is in Ethiopia. Hmmm.

Whatever the case, the uproar caused the right thing to be done. Smile Bob.
You are staying home.

'Nuff Respect.

'Ali G' Comedian Risks Riot at U.S. Rodeo

British comedian Sasha Baron Cohen escaped a near-riot at an American rodeo while filming his satirical "Da Ali G Show."

According to a report in the Roanoke (Virginia) Times, a man who was introduced as Boraq Sagdiyev from Kazakhstan -- in reality a Cohen character named Borat -- appeared at the rodeo over the weekend after organizers agreed to have him sing the national anthem.
After telling the crowd he supported America's war on terrorism, he said, "I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards ... And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq." He then sang a garbled version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The Roanoke Times reported that the crowd turned "downright nasty." One observer said "If he had been out there a minute longer, I think somebody would have shot him."
Cohen and his film crew were escorted out of the Salem Civic Center and told to leave the premises.

----

This guy is hysterical. I would LOVE to have seen this...I never knew Roanoke was such a hotbed for blind American patriotism. (written while noddin' to People Under The Stairs' "LA Song (sensitive mix)" :/

Love These Moments

Check out Long-View's "Can't Explain". Aaaah. (kinda remind me of the Killers, like in that way: the kind you keep to yourself). But this shit is actually catchy if you get past the verses. (Big piano-vocal choruses) which redeem it.

Find me on the Blue Bird if you can't get it.

"Lord, I've got to keep on moving..."

Marley's Wife Plans to Exhume Remains

'The wife of reggae star Bob Marley said Wednesday that she plans to exhume his remains in Jamaica and rebury them in his "spiritual resting place," Ethiopia.

"We are working on bringing his remains to Ethiopia," said Rita, the former backing singer for Marleys band, The Wailers. "It is part of Bob's own mission."

"Bob's whole life is about Africa, it is not about Jamaica," said Rita, a Cuban-born singer who married Marley in 1966.'

---

I realize that the religion Bob so devoutly followed originated in Ethiopia, but how do you exhume and remove the body of one of most popular figures in Jamaican history; who is not only a native, but changed their culture and politics forever?

And if we are to believe in what Bob believed; isn't he with his "Emperor" already? Why move the body? Let Jamaica keep their son.

My Favorite Releases of 2004

I just came upon an interesting artist named Daniel G. Harmann. His release "the lake effect" comes out on 4.20.04. Download "Broken Will, Bleeding Heart" off of his site. A good start for 2005.
In other news, as I learn more about how this whole thing works, I will be adding many more links and content discovered by my endless web-surfing and downloading (shh). I am also looking into making this site into an mp3 blog, as soon as I sort it out.

Warnings: Take Heed

The sign on the toilet brush says it best: "Do not use for personal hygiene."

That admonition was the winner of an anti-lawsuit group's contest for the wackiest consumer warning label of the year.
The sponsor, Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch, says the goal is "to reveal how lawsuits, and concern about lawsuits, have created a need for common sense warnings on products."
The $500 first prize went to Ed Gyetvai, of Oldcastle, Ontario, who submitted the toilet-brush label. A $250 second prize went to Matt Johnson, of Naperville, Ill., for a label on a children's scooter that said, "This product moves when used."
A $100 third prize went to Ann Marie Taylor, of Camden (!), S.C., who submitted a warning from a digital thermometer that said, "Once used rectally, the thermometer should not be used orally."

I love it...I never knew there was a contest for this kind of thing. Just goes to show how litigation and the complete abuse of the literal interpretation of the law against the use of common sense to make money (get rich!) burdens us.

Tsunami

What is up with the "we have a bigger dick" foreign policy theory (thanks George Carlin)?
Everyone is upping the ante in a poker game of dead souls. Kind of sick.
Bless the recipients, though, they benefit from the world's arrogance, for a change.
