katrina.

no, this is not katrina. but it is a much more interesting picture than the usual "damage photos and bending palm trees" you see in the news. hurricane katrina hit my exact part of the world on thursday, to my surprise. the media were not projecting it to hit us. the hurricane was only a category 1, but from the damage in my neighborhood you wouldn't believe it. things are still bad, but after 2 days i now have power. let me tell you- until you lose your power, you have no respect for how much easier it makes your life. anyways, things are slowly going back to normal, finally.

my space...

I must admit- I have not been a fan of these "friend network" sites and have resisted from participating in them in the past. But a friend of mine convinced me to give this one a chance a while ago and I stuck it out- for a long time; laying dormant. Time went by.
Then I started reading about certain famous people on the site and began to take it more seriously. What an ingenuous method of promotion and completely manageable way of dealing with fans, etc. I mean, how would you feel if your favorite band/artist/whatever wanted to "add you as a friend"? It's seductive, to say the least.

Whether it really is the band/artist/whatever that is actually contacting you; the promotion has been done.

a rare moment of candor...

i will tell you, my general readers, what my friends already know. i have finally quit the job that has been making me miserable for so long. i tried very hard to make things work; but it was just not possible. the next few days are very crucial for me, i need to find something else. i know it will work out, but i am nervous.

depeche mode- playing the angel

here's the new cover art. it's definitely got a "songs of faith and devotion" vibe to it.

ladytron- witching hour

finally got the whole thing. i like it so far, pretty dark and not as beat-heavy as the first two..."beauty two" and "weekend" are stand-outs for me.

last.fm (audioscrobbler)

Scrobbler put up their new site today. As I thought it would be, waay cooler than it used to look. The site is a bit slow because I am sure the audiophiles are scouring it for bugs right now. I encourage any of you to join this if you listen to a lot of music. It makes it interesting to look at your listening patterns.

normally, i don't get preachy but...

"Why do we exist? The meaning of life? Eternal truth? Will man ever conquer the human condition? Man has consciously been searching for love since he was conceived. Man has unconsciously been searching for God since he was born. Whilst Man has been taught many different paths to reach the goal, by many different Masters, (Jesus,Buddha,Krishna,Dalai Lama,Mohammed,Sai Baba....) he unfortunately, has failed to recognize the importance, significance and beauty of his Innermost nature, his true - Self. Through his arduous endeavours, searching high and low, Man has forgotten the very essence of all Universal teaching, one simple truth, 'to look for the treasure within his own heart, to cultivate, manifest and inherit, the latent Divinity that resides within'."

I like that.

dcfc- plans

Finally got a hold of the advance of the eagerly-anticipated major label debut of the new Death Cab For Cutie. So far, it seems they have stayed true to form, with their typical blend of frost-bitten yet strangely warm melodies and endearing lyrics. It seems that whereas Transatlanticism was about hope and longing, Plans is about growing old together (What Sarah "Said" ('Love is Watching Someone Die'), I Will Follow You Into the Dark, Soul Meets Body). It is so good to see a band follow their path and not be 'persuaded' to change according to hit-making philosophies.

I think fans of this band will be satisifed yet again, although I think Transatlanticism still has the edge.

I am just going through it for the first time, so my judgement is early and may change, but I feel guilty for not posting a single word here in over a week. More on that later...
