tops in 2005 >music<
this has been a bad year, in more ways than one.
loss of friendships- change of jobs- natural disasters- life loss- car accidents- money problems- and the painful and bitter taste of swallowed pride resonating on my palate.
maybe that's why when i looked back on this year's releases to do a top 10, i thought to myself "wow, there really hasn't been that much good stuff this year".
here is my list for the year, it may change if i realize i forgot something:
1. Death Cab For Cutie- Plans 2. Gorillaz- Demon Days 3. m83- Before the Dawn Heals Us 4. Sufjan Stevens- Illinois 5. Bloc Party- Silent Alarm 6. Maximo Park- A Certain Trigger 7. Arcade Fire- Funeral 8. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah- Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 9. Iron & Wine + Calexico- In the Reins 10. Imogen Heap- Speak For Yourself

matisyahu
i first heard of this guy a few weeks ago from a friend who was going to see him in concert. i trusted his judgment but had no immediate desire to check it out, so i made a mental note. ~ i finally listened to it the other day and i love it. imagine Barrington Levy fronting the Dave Matthews Band and that's my best description.
here's the "hook"- the guy is a white Hasidic Jew (i am talking long curls, hat, and scary quaker costume). BUT- the music won me over, and i am loving it. download this track, and then buy the album.
fans of a 90's live reggae album from Pato Banton (was it called Live & Kickin' All Over America"?) will appreciate.
Let the Snow references fly....
